Packaging Engineer

Job Description: Under the direction of the Merchandising Manager, the Merchandising Packaging Engineer provides knowledge and information, and manages projects from the beginning (marketing conception) to end (customer delivery). The candidate will lead the technical development of new packaging and displays, and in some instances, provide overall team leadership for cross-functional projects. The person in this position must develop and maintain relationships with internal cross-functions and external customers to provide the avenues of open communications to help make projects move forward successfully.

Summary of Position:

This position is primarily concerned with coordinating and managing major retail market projects, which include graphics, corrugate and flexible packaging, production line trials, beginning with the marketing conception all the way through customer delivery.

The candidate will provide creative input at ideation phase, and work closely with Marketing, Sales and Materials during project initiation to understand project goals and objectives, and translate them into cost effective solutions that position our products with consumers and customers/channels.

The incumbent will have project management experience and be able to host regular meetings with Marketing, Accounting, Purchasing, Planning, Production, Outside Vendors and Engineering on new product introductions and packaging revisions.

Principle Accountabilities:

Support marketing initiatives with new packaging and display designs, cost effective options and new technology

Implement package and display designs for new and existing Sanford products
*
Manage projects assuring required deadlines are met
*
Maintain packaging material specifications
*
Develop and implement design improvements and process evaluation supporting manufacturing efficiency and cost reduction efforts
*
Directly and indirectly involved with material sourcing and development at both customers and vendors
*
Ability to provide innovation, business process improvement and handle multiple projects/issues.

Will drive projects in cross-functional environments and multiple locations
*
Testing of packaging techniques to provide new and innovative packaging alternatives and cost savings opportunities.

Job Requirements:

Candidates must have at minimum a bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering and 2 - 6 years of Package Engineering project management experience with a CPG company. The successful candidate must be a self-starter, well organized, able to work both independently and as a team member, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be proficient in MS Office applications.
