Machine Shop Planner

Knowledge, Skill and Ability (KSA)

Must be subject matter expert for Inside Machine Shop with working knowledge of all other crafts. Must be able to assemble work packages, accomplish detail job scope requirements and troubleshooting. Plans day-to-day projects by priority. Orders necessary material for job packages. Must have strong computer skills to develop work instructions, schedules and assist in estimating growth items.

 

The ideal candidate will be a person to perform estimating, planning, material take-off & requisitions for the Machine Shop. This person would work directly with the Machine Shop Manager. Responsible for material planning and estimating projects to support the Machining schedule. Coordinates with Machine Shop production personnel to ensure timely receipts of raw and finished components to meet schedules and estimates. Expedites material working with purchasing; creates and monitors production orders with external operations to ensure timely completion; participates in production meetings; works with buyers; expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Shall be skilled with Microsoft Office Suite. Must be knowledgeable and skilled with regard to both manual and CNC machining processes. Experience with government specifications, drawings and contract requirements a definite plus. Planning software experience a plus.

 

Unique qualifications include:the ability to understand requirements of specifications packages, interpret items that are unclear and seek clarificationensure the agreed scope of work is accomplished completely and provided to the shopsupport the Project Mgr with specification interpretation support change order pricing and negotiationidentify growth within current work orderidentify new work growth on all work ordersensure all reporting requirements are metensure all projects are complete ( full description, materials, directions, budgets and clear specifications)ensure all mating parts are delivered complete (ie. shafts with keys, nuts, couplings and bearings)

 

Some of the duties would include the following but not limited to: analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare condition and required reports for machine shop projects. This may require taking measurements and developing sketches or drawings. Computer experience with Excel, Auto CAD and MS Office Suite. Planning software a definite plus. develop and establish project schedules and budgets, report variance and effect corrections.develop and track material orders for projects.establish priorities, coordinate with all trades and managers, control emergencies that interfere with routine scheduleinput for determining whether or not to subcontract all or part of work scope 

 

 

Successful candidates will have strong organizational skills and be capable of working independently as well as part of a team. IT professionals with no background in machining or steel need not apply.
