Plastics Production Manager
Job Description:
Accountable for planning and managing all present and future operations pertaining to the production of coolers and related products in the Wichita factory.
Primary responsibilities will include:
· Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities with the supervisors to ensure production and quality of products meets plans and specifications. Prepares regular operational reports that detail variances from plan or budget.
· Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
· Lead the continuous improvement programs through the use of Six Sigma, 5S and lean process improvement initiatives. Communicate and perform presentations to all levels of management.
· Establishes and monitors process control parameters necessary to achieve expected departmental performance.
· Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
· Reviews machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
· Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and leads workers to ensure compliance with standards.
· Maintains a positive employee relations environment, while properly motivating and correcting workforce.
· Plan, develop and initiate Capital plans to support ongoing business development
· Directs the activities of the first line supervisors and process development activities.
· Ensures safety practices are maintained within the department and all regulatory requirements are met and exceeded.
· Ensures environmental practices are maintained within the department and all regulatory requirements are met and exceeded.
· Maintain communications with Design and Manufacturing Engineers, Production Control, Finance, Purchasing, Human Resources, Receiving and Shipping departments, Sales and Marketing departments, Quality Departments, Facilities, Safety Department, Environment department, outside vendors, suppliers, and machine shops.
· Performs those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including provision for the selection and development of employees, salary and budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation, disciplinary action, organization of goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the department.
· Performs such individual assignments as the management may direct; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the Department, the Group, the Company, and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Job Dimensions:Responsible for approximately 325 staff people.
Job Requirements:
·Bachelor's degree, preferably in manufacturing or business; a Master's degree is preferred.
· 5-10 years' progressively responsible management experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Demonstrated Mechanical Aptitude
· Ability to train and interface with a diverse workforce including contingent workforce
· APICS background preferred
· Skills to create spreadsheets, documents and presentations in Excel, Word and Power Point
· LEADERSHIP: Skills to influence the actions and opinions of others in a desired direction; to exhibit judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives
· SPOKEN COMMUNICATIONS: Able to clearly present information through the spoken and written word; influence or persuade others through oral presentation in positive or negative circumstances; listen well.
· TOLERANCE OF AMBIGUITY: Able to withhold action or speech in the absence of important information; deal with unresolved situations, frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
· COMMITMENT TO TASK: Able to start and persist with specific courses of action while exhibiting high motivation and a sense of urgency; willing to commit to long hours of work and make personal sacrifice in order to reach goals.
Physical Requirements:
· Must have the physical skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and make presentations.
· Must have the physical skills and ability to work a flexible schedule around frequently changing production demands.
Working Conditions:
· Unusually protracted hours of work
· Often humid and high temperature work conditions.
· Moving parts and complicated and dangerous machines
