Press Operators

These positions make ready and operate sheet-fed offset printing press by performing the following duties:  Verifies size, color, and type of paper and color of ink from job pocket.  Cleans inking rollers with solvent and replaces them in press, when needed.  Adjusts controls to regulate volume of ink.  Packs blanket and plate cylinders to correct standards. Adjusts sheet delivery.  Responsible for feeder adjustments, transfer grippers, and blanket and back cylinder pressures.  Responsible for overall press operations.  Examines printed sheets to determine off-level areas, variation in ink volume, register slippage, indications of offsetting, and color register.  Adjusts press controls, inking fountains, and water and ink balance to equalize off-level areas as required.  Registers forms and mixes colors.  Responsible for maintaining standards and quality of product.  Responsible for team's waste levels, productivity, efficiency and safety.  Responsible for training of team members.  Responsible for completion and accuracy of necessary reports. Responsible for reading, understanding and complying with all job pockets.  Refers any questions of status or accuracy of job pockets to supervisor.

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3-5 years experience as a large format (40 inches and larger) off-set litho printing press operator required.
