Process Engineer II - III, 3 openings
POSITION SUMMARY
A member of the FAB Process Engineering Team. Sustain and improve existing thin film processes to assure meeting CMI?s scheduled commitments to manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Sustain the existing thin film fab process. Continuously monitor the quality of product in the line. Perform characterization experiments of the TFF equipment to ensure correct operation on a routine basis. Responsible for quality of incoming materials. Monitor the quality of the TFF facility services: DI water, N2 gas, high purity air, process vacuum, house vacuum, laminar flow units, yellow lights, cylinder gasses, cleaning service.
Write and/or revise TFF specifications in a timely manner to insure up-to-date documentation. Develop new TFF processes to increase CMI?s technical advantage. Develop and manage projects to insure the goals of CMI are met. Use SPC and control plans to monitor processes.
Maintain a laboratory record. Work in a safe manner and maintains a safe work place.
JOB SCOPE
This position is accountable to the FAB Process Engineering Team. Decision making for process changes is
governed by the Change Control Board, but within this context the engineer can make decisions based on
experimental data. The consequences of a process change must be weighed before making a change, and effects must be monitored to prevent loss of product. Statistical process control is highly valued. Creativity and innovation are encouraged. FAB engineers are accountable for bringing projects/equipment purchases in within 10% of budget. Engineers are expected to manage capital assets for the maximum benefit of CMI.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No direct supervisory responsibilites. May act as a project leader when a process or equipment crisis occurs. May be assigned to a one-on-one working relationship with TFF Process Technicians or other Engineers.
JOB SKILLS
Technical skills:
Requires an in-depth knowledge of thin film processing. Requires knowledge of process documentation and process change orders. Proficiency with CAD or other drawing or modeling software is highly desired. Must have the ability to design tools to fit process changes. Requires knowledge of and ability to use statistical process controls. Knowledge of waste and water treatment processes and regulations is desirable. Requires the ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Process development skills are required.
Requires skill with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Access and Outlook).
Performance skills:
Ability to perform and excel in a team environment is required. Requires flexibility with respect to job function and hours worked. Requires strong prioritizing and problem solving skills. Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Level II Position
Must have a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent. Must have a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in process engineering in a thin film or semiconductor fab. Experience with two or more of the following is required: sputtering, photo-lithography, electroplating, wet and dry etch equipment. Experience with or knowledge of machine shop capabilities is desired.
Level III position
Must have a B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Science, or equivalent. Must have a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in process engineering in a thin film or semiconductor fab. Experience with polymer dielectric films is required. Must have demonstrated knowledge of polymer dielectric materials selection, properties, and processing. Experience with polyimides is highly desired.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
Internal: Interacts with process and maintenance technicians, fellow engineers, R&D engineers, FAB Managers, Design Center, and Assembly/Test for the purposes of trouble-shooting design or equipment issues, setting priorities, determining project status. May have to interact with the Model Shop on part design issues.
External: May have contact with outside vendors and colleagues in the field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time; ability to use a microscope; ability to wear and use safety/cleanroom equipment or clothing. Requires the ability to follow cleanroom procedures. Must be able to be on call via phone or pager.
ENVIRONMENT
The majority of the incumbent?s time is spent in a cleanroom environment with some exposure to chemicals.
Some travel may be required.
