Product Development Engineer

Education: Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering


Required Experience:
? Solid foundation in Solidworks (2005 / 2006), including 3-D modeling with both solids and surfaces as well as detailed drawings and complex assembly creation.
? Design experience including sensitivity to tolerance analysis, strength of materials, material selection, enclosure design, etc.
? Familiarity with geometric tolerances per ASME Y14.5M-1994 or ASME Y14.41-2003
? Familiarity with generating Bills of Material and creating Engineering Change Orders.
? Microsoft Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook

Desired Experience:
? 5+ Years working as a Mechanical Engineer in a technical discipline.
? Experience developing electrical devices (AC & DC), including familiarity with current handling capabilities of copper and brass, electrical insulation and spacing requirements, and designing against relevant standards such as UL & IEC.
? Extensive experience designing plastic injection-molded and/or die cast components.
? Demonstrated innovativeness through awarded patents and/or products designed
? Experience designing electrical, consumer or marine products.


Key Responsibilities:

Working in a project team environment, the product development engineer will coordinate tasks with the engineering manager and other team members to develop new marine electrical products and support existing product modifications. Key responsibilities will include the following:

? Utilizes engineering expertise to synthesize new product concepts and detailed designs, working with marketing and business leaders to define product requirements and specifications.
? Develops and maintains detailed project schedules, following a stage-gate product development process.
? Prepares complex layouts, drawings, diagrams, 3-D models and/or prototypes from data and specifications
? Alters drawings to suit engineering changes and initiates engineering changes
? Compiles bills of material and specification sheets
? Designs cost effective products with adherence to applicable industry and customer standards/specifications
? Works with outside vendors to solicit manufacturability feedback, establish product cost expectation, order and expedite engineering samples
? Communicates with all involved parties to establish manufacturability of product design
? Builds and/or modifies models of product concepts and/or test fixtures.
? Maintains detailed and comprehensive records of all invented ideas, designs, and basic improvements
? Resolves manufacturing problems caused by existing designs.
? Selects materials based on application.
? Assists in standardizing materials, components, and assemblies to minimize the items procured, manufactured, and inventoried
? Assists with the manufacturing integration of new products into the production environment including the development of production fixtures and work flow processes.
? Assists in the coordination of project activities and scheduling.
? Assists in the planning of test and evaluation programs

? Works under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager
