Production Engineer (Welding)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  A Production Engineering position responsible for the high volume assembly and weld of precision stamped parts.  A strong educational foundation combined with an applied working knowledge of welding technology is required.  This position will oversee a variety of weld cell designs and processes including Resistive, Mig, and Laser.  Part fixturing and transfer in most applications is automated and will require knowledge of robotics and custom built transfer equipment.  Job responsibilities will include weld fixturing and equipment set-up, monitoring, and analysis.  Destructive and non-destructive verification testing is to be analyzed for continued conformance to strict automotive requirements.  Production will demand a smooth start of production and a rapid change over of fixturing and/or wear part replacement.  Must be a team player capable of training and coaching operators.  Will partner with Maintenance, Tooling, and Quality departments to assure uninterrupted operations or delivery.  Must be capable of analyzing part variation due to shifts in process, material, electrode wear or associated automated operations.  Expectations include ability to optimize the process for improved part Quality, increased throughput, and reduction of time for change over and maintenance.  Responsive support is required for analysis of non-conforming product or issues related to waste.  Will perform trial builds of new assemblies or part configurations to optimize weld process or cell operation.

 

This position requires full compliance to safety, operations, and quality standards and procedures, at all times.  Employees are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and to conform to increased standards as applicable to their building or location.  Work environment contains oil and oil fumes which may require allergy testing for sensitive individuals.  All employees are required to perform any job, task, or duty assigned to them, whether or not it is directly related to their specific job title.

 REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE

 

? Four year college degree

? 5 years minimum of welding and robotics experience

? Problem solving/analytical skills (DOE/5W?s/8D/Pareto)

? Technical/Report writing skills

? Experience in an Automotive Manufacturing environment a plus

? Computer and Computer Software Skills

? Work/Project Management and Presentations Skills

? Continuous Improvement tools and Skills (Lean, 5S, Poke Yoke, SPC)

? Ability to read and interpret blueprints

? Interpersonal Communication and People Skills in a Diverse environment
