Description


The Corporate Produce Department has an opening for a Quality Control Specialist I supporting the Miami, Florida location.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Report key quality control information, based on set Safeway Standards, in a timely manor to the procurement team.
Work with the QC Managers to quickly reconcile any outstanding vendor issues to continually maintain good vendor relationships.
Work in tandem with the QC Managers and the procurement team to answer any questions with regard to product quality, packs, or food safety issues.
Proactively work with vendors to assure proper handling of fresh products, to include harvest, post harvest, and warehousing techniques.
Periodically meet with vendors to review performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Analyze warehouse rejections to establish inspection priorities and to identify corrective action plans. Create period reports and summaries to track performance of vendors and corrective action plans.
Inspect floral in the field and packing sheds for quality and condition attributes and report quality to the designated parties.
Collaborate with management to identify periods of superior or inferior quality and recommend adjustments to specifications.
Travel required out of Miami area: approximately 30% (company car provided)


 Required Skills


Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated:


4-year college degree in food science/agribusiness or equivalent related industry experience.
Retail produce knowledge and USDA Inspection experience helpful.
Warehouse/receiving experience.
Knowledge of regulatory agencies including USDA and PACA.
Fresh floral growing, packing and/or harvesting preferred.
Ability to work independently and be a team player.
Good management skills and ability to relate with diverse workforce.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong customer focus.
Ability to distinguish colors, work in a 34?aF environment and lift/move boxes up to 75lbs.
Ability to work on rotating week ends and flexible hours.
A valid driver?s license is required.
