Safety Lead

The Santa Clara plant is part of the Insulation Systems Business. It has approximately 300 employees and produces approximately 300 million pounds of insulation a year. Its products are sold into the US residential insulation market.

The Safety Leader is responsible for directing the development, implementation, and evaluation of critical health and safety processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvement related to safety, the environment and health at the insulation plant in Santa Clara, CA. The Safety Leader has the responsibility to engage the plant leadership teams to ensure safety and health excellence, as well as provide information and guidance for activities relating to the site-wide EHS objectives and to ensure that site goals are aligned with relevant business unit and corporate EHS goals. The Safety Leader works in a team environment where accountability for injury/illness prevention, EHS compliance assurance and asset protection is incumbent on both the leadership team and the individual.

Job Responsibilities:
Develop, implement and maintain health and safety management systems for the site in accordance with corporate guidelines.
Implement OC and business unit safety standards/expectations and facilitate site-specific health and safety management systems designed to reduce employee injuries and illnesses.
Ensure that occupational illnesses and injuries are immediately reported, thoroughly investigated and promptly addressed, consistent with corporate and business unit standards.
Represent the site by actively participating in business unit and corporate safety networks. Drive business unit and corporate EHS initiatives at the site.
Participate in the site capital planning including safety review of capital projects, safety design reviews and evaluations of process/equipments changes at the site.
Facilitate safety training for site employees and maximize the use of standardized training through OC University.
Provide oversight for OC?s medical surveillance program and occupational health nurse-related functions at the site. Interface with EAP to enhance employee productivity.
Implement wellness programs to meet site needs.
Assure compliance with OSHA and corporate recordkeeping and reporting
Actively participate in, and support, the Safety auditing program and ensure prompt closure of audit findings for the site.
Develop in-plant audit systems; conduct site audits to identify compliance risks
Establish and maintain site emergency response process (procedures, equipment and people.
Lead Workplace Safety and industrial hygiene surveys, annual medical surveillance programs, hearing conversation, bloodborne pathogens, and respirator protection programs
Investigate Accidents & Near-Misses, Analyze Data and provide trend information to plant employees
Lead plant Ergonomics Assessments and Interventions.
Develop and lead the Job Safety Analysis process
Develop in-plant systems that support ongoing Confined Space & Lockout/Tag-out Assessments
Provide technical leadership and counsel to management and employees regarding safety and health matters.
Actively monitor waste out of the plant and develop plans to reduce same.
Monitor the Purchase and supply of Safety equipment at prescribed budget levels
Facilitate relationships between Workers Compensation, Disability Case Management, Occupational Health Nurses, Plant Leadership and all EHS related vendors

Qualifications
Bachelor?s Degree
3-10 years of EHS experience in an industrial manufacturing setting
Applied knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations
Certification in health and/or safety
Spanish language skills preferred

Travel Percent: 5%
