Sample Room Cutter/Sewer - Apparel

We are looking for a Sample Room Cutter/Sewer who will assist with maintaining fabric stock through the updating of the cut fabric daily log. Responsible for accounting for actual usage per order and weighing of and disposing of scrap fabric for sewing department.
Pulling and measuring fabric, laying fabric out for cutting based on prioritized list of styles.
Aligning digital cutting machine on spread fabric for optimal fabric usage.
Operate and monitor digital cutting machine for accurate performance.
Cut pieces by hand that are not appropriate for digital cutting by laying out printed pattern pieces, tracing and notating, and proceeding with cutting.
Review marker layout and provide suggestions for utilization improvement, if possible.

Secondary:
Assembles and sews garments or mock-ups, following patterns, sketches, and design specifications, to prepare sample garments or mock-ups.
Selects garment parts and threads, according to design specifications.
Working with pattern maker drapes garment on model form, examines fit and hang of garment, and proves correctness of pattern.
 
Operate all necessary machinery required to produce garments (stitching machines, embroidery machines, heat press, iron)
Provide a technical review of each project with the designer or project manager with suggestions on how to improve it, if possible. Mark the size, sewing information and codes on the fabric or worksheet prior to cutting by hand or using the digital plotter / cutter.
Lay out fabric on cutting table, place ditital plotter / cutter and monitor performance.
Operate digital plotter / cutter.
Cut fabric by hand as necessary.
Place cut pieces in bundles for sewers, with appropriate style information.
Update materials usage log daily and work with Supervisor to keep sample room fully stocked.
Ensure maintainance of the digital cutting system is monitored and performed by trained personnel.
Ability to operate or learn to operate all machinery required.
Ability to learn the embroidery operations.
A strong understanding of materials used in prototyping.
Be capable of thinking through sequence of operations in the garment construction and make improvement suggestion to pattern engineers to improve the prototypes.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Complete all projects within the established timelines.
Ability to crosstrain on other positions in the sample department and to provide backup on these positions as needed.

Job Requirements:
2-4 years experience with digital plotter / cutter (preferrably Gerber systems)
2-4 years experience with hand cutting fabric, placement of patterns, and distribution to sewing team
High school graduate preferred
Strong commercial sewing ability required
Strong hand-eye coordination
Familiarity with design characteristics, production capabilities, construction requirements and limitations
Sewing experience, pattern making experience and familiarity with different sewing machines
Ability to read and interpret product specifications
Strong team player
Detail oriented
Quick to learn and adapt to change
Ability to work under pressure
