Saw Filer Supervisor

The Dallas Lumber facility, a high production dimension lumber mill, is recruiting for a Filing Department Team Leader.  Individual is responsible for the safe coordination / supervision of the activities associated with the mill’s saw filing responsibilities.  The Dallas facility consists of sawmill, planer, and shipping operations.  The facility offers an updated filing room with modern equipment.  Current opportunity is on day shift, however successful candidate must be willing to work all shifts and weekends.

 

Key Functions:  Supervision and development of approximately 6 employees reporting to this position.  Responsible for safe, efficient operation of filing department and facility, ensuring proper job and safety procedures are followed.  Lead safety meetings and role model safe job practices.  Manage safety, quality, uptime, and other business indicators related to shift performance; and perform other supervisory functions are required.  Preparation of appropriate operating and statistical reports.  Leading process improvement initiatives and teams.  Controlling costs and labor hours.  Administering Labor Agreements and company policies in a fair and equitable manner.


Experience leading a saw filing department, including both Round and Band saw filing. 
 Must have a minimum of 2 years leadership experience, and extensive hands-on experience with saw filing. 
Ability to lead implementation of safety improvements through Weyerhaeuser procedures. 
Basic knowledge of industrial safety procedures and regulations. 
Demonstrated strong leadership skills and experience leading a team to achieve excellent results. 
Ability to generate commitment and motivate employees toward a common goal. 
Strong communication skills: written, oral and listening. 
Ability to track/measure performance utilizing standard methods/tools. 
Good planning and organizing ability. 
Ability to problem-solve and engage employees in a team environment. 
Basic understanding of business and financial concepts. 
Basic understanding of labor and employee relations. 
Solid computer skills.
