Senior Buyer (Heavy Manufacturing)

This is a position for a proven Senior Buyer who will be responsible for purchasing of assigned raw materials (steel, copper, oil, etc.) for this heavy manufacturing company. Annual spend is $30MM. The position is located at the plant, and will interact heavily with production and supply chain management. This is a hands-on position. The facility is fully Lean/Six-Sigma implemented, and the person in this position will be expected to incorporate these requirements into their supplier contracts. 

 

The Senior Buyer needs to have a sense of urgency in getting cost out of the product. A creative, self-motivated cost-saver describes the ideal candidate. Needless to say, excellent communication skills are essential. This position will be responsible for supplier development, negotiating and managing local, national, and international supplier relationships and contracts/pricing. The Senior Buyer will be the "go-to" for other buyers, and will be required to assume a mentor-role for some of them.

 

The Senior Buyer needs to be assertive, have exceptional, proven, negotiations skills and accomplishments, be goal-oriented at all times, and must play well with others. The Senior Buyer reports to the Director of Supply Chain Management. This position is career tracked to the Director position.

Bachelors degree in a technical field;

Minimum of 5 years sourcing commodities as noted above, in manufacturing;

 

Proven experience successfully reducing materials costs;

Proven experience purchasing for a LEAN implemented facility.

 



Six-Sigma certification preferred.

ISM / APICS certification preferred.

 

Compensation range is broad, dependent upon experience.
