Senior Graphics Technician- Night Shift - Olrando

Function:
The Prepress Technician, operating within Creative Services, is responsible for providing preparatory technical (computer) services for Tradeshow and Exhibits and Design (E&D) graphic requirements. The position involves handling, rebuilding, and formatting multiple computer file types and digital media for varying final output destinations.
The position requires a unique blending of desktop publishing, graphic design, digital imaging, and prepress production, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Customers/Business/Product
The Prepress Technician prepares and produces digital files using state-of-the-art desktop publishing tools to design, edit, and proof documents, which will be used for reproduction on large format digital printers. Production work ranges from laying out simple text documents, to the modification of complex existing customer artwork or internally supplied artwork, to designing custom graphics based on internal/external customer direction. Periodically, graphic design is produced from customers? ideas and requirements.
Preflight customer files, create and manipulate digital files to specifications, generate proofs, and check for quality
deficiencies at all stages of prepress production.
Perform design, layout and production functions for each graphic element specified using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, Macromedia Freehand, or CorelDraw, depending on which file type has been provided by the customer.
Establish and maintain ICC profiles on laser printers for color accuracy.
Execute complex photo compositing, digital image manipulation, and reconstruction.
Facilitate transfer of data between the graphics department and our internal and external clients using multiple programs and protocols, including but not limited to; TCP/IP, FTP, DAVE, Network Browser, and AdmitMAC.
Perform other duties as assigned and deemed necessary of the position under the direction of the Graphics Shift Supervisor, Graphics Production Supervisor, or Graphics Manager.
Process
The position involves specialized tasks which often need to be carried out independently, with little direct supervision. The Prepress Technician will network and collaborate with the neighboring disciplines of design, detailing, and project management to ensure that customer supplied or internally fabricated digital media is prepared in accordance with final output specifications that meet quality and customer expectations.
Develop show look and design for tradeshows that lack a design book or overall cohesion.
Prepare show formats using a linked image-based file system when necessary.
Recognize and correct potential production problems contained within design files (including but not limited to digital file sizes, printing issues, mounting concerns, etc.)
Prepare digital files to specifications for outsourcing using knowledge of the material and process being used by the vendor to produce the artwork.
Read and understand CAD drawings and prepare files for C&C routing programs.
Establish file type, setup and color standards for signage.
Determines prepress requirements by reviewing work orders, studying design, content, and specifications.
Obtains layout approval by submitting completed design and layout; reviewing and implementing changes.
Maintain prepress files by filing and retrieving layouts.

The Prepress Technician posses a can-do attitude, superior customer service skills, digital graphic production experience, design capabilities and problem solving abilities. Must be able to communicate with customers and staff members regarding the digital file set-up and preparation of incoming orders as well as creation of artwork for customers.
Provides the interface between the Designer and the Graphics Department with a focus towards production execution to approved specifications.
Files generated by customers and those generated within the Graphics Department must be reviewed so that layouts can
be prepared in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards.
Assists inside and outside sales staff in promoting services to customers.
Interfaces with internal and external customers in order to train, procure, or resolve challenges related to supplied digital files.
Ability to convert multiple file types from one platform to another.
Ability to identify file types and provide solutions for graphic output.
Ability to understand and fulfill internal and external client expectations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (customer service).
Basic math skills (fraction to decimal conversions) and ability to read and understand CAD drawings.

Night Shift
Education/Experience:
Two (2) years experience in Graphics design and production, including one (1) year computer design experience.
Mandatory experience (two years) using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
High School Graduate; prefer two (2) years college or service bureau/print shop experience.
Demonstrated superior knowledge and experience in graphics related software programs: Illustrator, Photoshop,
PageMaker, QuarkExpress, Freehand, Acrobat, Fontographer, ColorSync and other related utilities and graphics programs.
Understanding and demonstrated experience working with color models (CMYK, RGB, LAB)
Clear and demonstrated knowledge of File Transfer Protocols, the Internet, and Postscript Language.
Adequate knowledge of Macintosh and Windows platforms and operating systems including
utilities such Stuffit and WinZip.
Knowledge of printing terminology and practices, including layout, imposition, file conversion,
color matching and color correction.
Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plug-ins
Experience with printing using large format printers
Must have proven competence on hardware/software problem resolution
Ability to design and document departmental operating procedures
Working knowledge Onyx Rip software is a strong plus
