SENIOR OPTO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

Duties and Responsibilities:

Produce and assemble precision electro-optical and opto-mechanical products, meeting quality and production standards, while supporting the goals and directives of the company and department.  Applies job skills and company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks. Works on assignments that are extremely complex in nature where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations.

 

 

Knowledge Requirements: Build, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot complex Opto-Electro-Mechanical assemblies using procedures, prints, written instructions or verbal communication. Understand and operate standard optical and electronic test equipment i.e. (interferometers, autocollumators, MTF testers, beam scan detectors, lasers, beam steering modules, oscilloscopes).  Operate computer assisted testing equipment. Plan and lay out complex optical alignments with multiple degrees of freedom.  Perform mathematical computations to determine air spacing and optimal performance. Read and interpret measuring devices. Read and intepret blue prints, engineering change orders and applicable document changes.  Interpret schematics, assembly aids, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and repair instructions. Follow inspection requirements and the meet the Newport workmanship standards (as outlined in the manual). Perform self-inspection and make entries into computer database. Work with engineering and manufacturing engineering on root cause of failures and resolution as well as process improvements. Train/instruct team members on the use of equipment, tools, and methods used to produce product.Build and test prototypes, evaluates results, and recommend modifications if necessary.

 

Skill Requirments:Extensive "hands-on" knowledge of interferometry and optical alignment techniques. Knowledge of optical bonding and cleaning techniques. Experience working in clean room environment (class 100, 1000, 10000) Must be able to read/interpret blue prints, schematics, manufacturing processes. Must be computer literate (comfortable accessing computer databases and entering data) NPP requirement training ISO 9002 Good communication and interpersonal skills Possess patience and be able to work under pressure Comfortable working in a team environment
