Senior Safety Engineer

SUMMARY  To provide leadership and guidance for interpretation of and compliance with state and federal regulations dealing with industrial health and safety matters, and coordination of projects related to compliance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy.Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment in order to determine if all safety requirements have been met.Interpret safety regulations for others .Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, and/or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.Provide technical advice and guidance to organizations on how to handle health-related problems and make needed changes.Confer with medical professionals to assess health risks and to develop ways to manage health issues and concerns.Maintain liaisons with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated.Write and revise safety regulations and codes.Plan and conduct industrial hygiene research.Direct and manage site physical security and asset protection programs.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibility for functional direction of EAS Technician, Security Contractors & Emergency Response Team (ERT) .

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: B.S degree in Occupational Safety/Safety Engineering with a minimum 5 years experience in industry

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,  procedure/vendor manuals and P&ID drawings.  Ability to write reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively to others.

 

MATHEMATICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS: Comfortable using mathematical skills inherent to those prerequisites to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.  Reasonable computer literacy in software such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and the like.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Bachelor of Science in Safety or Industrial Hygiene preferred.  CSP or CIH desirable.

Plant dress code is enforced at all times. Steel toed safety shoes, safety glasses and earplugs are required in production areas.  Hardhats may be required in some areas.
