Site Leader/Director of Operations - Fremont Site

Position Scope

 

? This position is responsible for all operational activities within the Fremont site and will be based in Fremont, California. The successful individual will be a key member of the PerkinElmer Optoelectronics operations leadership team and will report to the VP Global Operations.

? The Fremont site has annual revenues of approximately $60M with a total headcount of 215. The site team is a combination of professional disciplines and both highly skilled and skilled workers.  The revenue mix at the Fremont site is approximately 50% Mil/Aero, 25% Cermax and 25% Photonics

? The main objective of this position will be to drive world-class cost, schedule and quality improvements at the site to improve margins and increase customer satisfaction.

? This objective should be obtained by developing a team of strong talents to achieve world-class operational capabilities.

 

Responsibilities

 

? Align site goals and performance to the Strategic Goals of Optoelectronics and drive successful execution of those.

? Develop and execute a lean strategy to support improved business growth rates

? Develop and lead process improvement programs which ensure organizational achievement of world-class efficiency and effectiveness through Six Sigma (Yield Improvement), Lean Enterprise (Cycle-Time Compression) and Total Preventive Maintenance (Equipment efficiency)

? Support Engineering efforts to drive yield improvement in operational execution

? Ensure the operational, financial and fiscal integrity of the site and level development of the Annual Operating Plan.

? Support successful management of business relationships with key partners, suppliers and customers

? Install metrics, processes, tools and controls that promote sound and responsible operational and business decisions.  

? Build and develop a world-class operations team, i.e. talent upgrade/development, effective coaching and counseling, motivation, and addressing performance gaps through the LOR process

? Support reducing material spends by reducing scrap and supporting development of suppliers in low cost countries.

 

Requirements

 

? Bachelor of Science degree in engineering required; other degrees will be considered if accompanied by appropriate technical experience. Candidates with an MBA preferred.

? World-class operations professional with a minimum of 10-15 years operations and business experience.

? Excellent leadership skill to manage a diverse group of strong talents to attain world-class performance.

? Strong background in increasingly responsible operations roles in a technology oriented manufacturing setting.

? Proven success in outstanding customer centric responsiveness.

? Strong structured engineering skills, i.e. project management, product management, etc.

? Proven capability in utilizing Six Sigma tools, Lean Manufacturing methodology and TPM deployment.

? Experience developing and leading cost control programs in a highly complex setting.

? Demonstrated track record of partnering with business leaders in order to achieve financial objectives.

? Exceptional communication skills with strong leadership traits and the ability to thrive in an environment of change and continuous improvement.

? Direct experience with Optoelectronics related products a plus.

? Must be eligible to work on State Department controlled products (International Traffic in Arms Regulations controlled).
