We currently have a Surface Manager career opportunity at our Columbus, OH location.

 

JOB SUMMARY:  The Surface Manager is responsible for directing the efforts of employees in meeting production quotas according to quality control standards in the lab operations.

 

JOB DUTIES: 

1. Participates in and contributes to section and production meetings.

2. Conducts departmental meetings weekly and communicates in writing and verbally with the Day Shift daily.

3. Participates in the hiring of new employees.

4. Orients and trains new employees, and follows up on progress.

5. Maintains performance records on all employees; communicates performance levels to each employee routinely; and coaches employees on methods and techniques for improving performance.

6. Evaluates the performance of employees and recommends pay changes.

7. Disciplines employees according to company policy as needed.

8. Schedules employees? work time and vacation time.

9. Prepares the work area and equipment prior to the shift.

10. Performs light maintenance on equipment as time allows.

11. Requests maintenance on equipment that needs additional repair or maintenance.

12. Analyzes and recommends the purchase of new equipment as needed.

13. Requisitions departmental supplies as needed.

14. Checks, adjusts and assures the accuracy of all machinery and chemicals.

15. Teaches, supports, and assures that quality and quantity standards established by the company are maintained.

16. Plans work flow and monitors production records.

17. Maintains a familiarity with and ability to perform all jobs in his/her area and does so as necessary.

18. Reviews breakage reports daily and follows up on breakage problems as needed.

19. Assures that all safety standards are maintained in the work area.

20. Fills in for other supervisors as directed.

21. Reviews and completes payroll records every payroll period.

22. Assists employees with special problems.

23. Performs related work as required.

24. Ability to effectively work as a supportive team member and promote teamwork.

25. Demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills.

26. Utilize TQM methods to continually improve quality and productivity.

27. Promote positive morale amongst all employees.

 JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

? Must demonstrate a PASSION for achieving results.

? Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing preferably an optical lab environment.

? Must have experienced a transition to Lean Manufacturing and must be able to not only speak the buss word but be able to explain the methodology behind it.

? Demonstrable leadership skills and experience.

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

? Good mathematical/analytical skills.

? Excellent process orientation.

? Good process control knowledge and a track record in reducing process variability and improving process yields.

? Strong computer skills.
