Testing Engineer

I. Scope of Job:   General supervision and review: Coordinating supervisory responsibility.  Plans and performs engineering research, design, development or manufacturing assignments, including responsibility for the major part of a significant project of moderate size and complexity.  Develops strategies and modifies plans using appreciable originality and ingenuity in narrow technical area.

 

II. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

a.  Setup and execute tests, with minimum supervision, related to materials and coatings for automotive lighting.

b.  Provide theoretical explanations for physical failure modes.

c.  Operate and maintain testing equipment in the Engineering Technology department.

d.  Analyze test data and present the information in required engineering format.

e.  Act as liaison between Engineering Analyst and product design teams.

f.  Write and update design standards related to the physical aspects of automotive lamps.

g.  Learn physical principles of lamp design and materials used in the design and automotive lighting.

h.  Assist design and development engineers in the design and physical analysis of automotive lighting systems, lighting components, and light sources.

i.  Investigate and evaluate new products or techniques for improving performance of automotive lighting.

j.  Must be able to complete projects in a timely manner.

k.  Write reports that include theory, data, analysis, and conclusions.

IV. Qualifications:

 

a.  Minimum Requirements:  Bachelor Degree with a concentration in physics, electrical, or mechanical engineering, with 3-5 years in a position involving engineering laboratory work or product development.  Capable of operating many types of test equipment.  Communicate well with engineering personnel and engineering management.  Experienced in test design and methodology in addition to lab setup and data analysis. Ability to work in a team environment, which requires cooperation and leadership to complete a project.

 

b.  Preferred Requirements:  Minimum requirements plus a Master?s Degree in physics, electrical or mechanical engineering, with 1-3 years experience in a position involving plastic processing or surface treatment.
