Adams Thermal Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of engine cooling components for the agricultural, off-highway and automotive markets is currently accepting resumes for a Toolmaker.  ATS is located just 15 minutes southeast of Sioux Falls, SD (population of 150,000) in Canton, SD.

 GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Fabricates and repairs tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, dies or tools by studying requirements; machining materials.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

?  Interaction with Supervisors and co-workers as needed.

?  Ability to work as a team member towards overall Company objectives.

?  Must wear proper PPE equipment in all designated areas.

?  Must be self-motivated and able to work as a member of a team when needed.

?  Develop tool design of jigs, fixtures, gages, dies, machines, and hand tools by drawing tooling prints, sketchers, specifications and descriptions. Apply knowledge of material used, assembly methods and mathematics.

?  Confirm tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, dies, machines and hand tools by comparing measurements and tolerance to part prints using micrometers, thickness gauges, gauge blocks, and other measurement tools.

?  Strengthens tools jigs, fixtures, gages, dies, machines, and hand tools by putting specification on tool drawings for heat treating.

?  Maintains continuity among work team by communicating irregularities, and improvement needs.

?  Document actions by completing logs.

?  Resolve fabrication and assembly problems by altering process to meet specifications; notifying Supervisor to obtain additional resources.

?  Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results needed.

?  Assembles tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, die or hand tools by shaping, smoothing, and fitting parts with genders, files, stones, etc.

?  Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements following the manufacturer?s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

?  Maintain stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.

?  Develops die function and structure by studying of die, product and prototypes; applying knowledge of material under stress, machining and assembly methods, and mathematics.

?  Confirms parts by comparing measurements to specifications.

?  Completes assembly by bolting and doweling parts and components together with hammers, wrenches, etc; connecting wiring and hydraulic lines.

?  Confirms performance of die by installing die; inspection of die; making adjustments; comparing finished product to specifications.

?  Regulates machining by setting and adjusting controls.

?  Produces parts by locating and marking reference points on work-pierce with rule, compass, template, etc; positioning and aligning work-pierce against stops and guides or with die; operating equipment.

?  Maintains specifications by observing operations; detecting malfunctions; inspecting parts; adjusting controls; replacing tools and dies.

?  Resolves production problems by altering process to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources.

?  Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufactures instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. 

 REQUIRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISITCS:

 

?  Three to Five years working knowledge of tool and die experience preferred.

?  Working knowledge of mills, lathes, various grinders, welding (preferred) and a good working knowledge of hydraulics and general mechanics.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

 

?  Two year Associates degree in a related field.

?  Good written and verbal communication skills.

?  Self starter requiring minimal supervision.

?  Basic computer skills.
