POSITION:

 

Meadowcraft, Inc., one of the nation?s leading producers of casual outdoor furniture, is seeking a Traffic Manager for its Birmingham manufacturing facility.  This position is located in the Pinson Valley area approximately 10 miles north of downtown Birmingham.  The Traffic Manager will serve as a key member of the General Manager?s staff. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

The Traffic Manager will work with commercial carriers and negotiate freight rates to ensure the best possible rates for our customers and for inter-plant deliveries.  The Traffic Manager will oversee the scheduling of LTL and truck loads and ensure our product is delivered to our customers on time.  The successful candidate will be able to analyze truck routes and set up freight programs to cost effectively move our product to our customers.  The position will require daily interaction with truck lines on scheduling in and outbound freight.  The successful candidate will be able to analyze financial information and establish cost savings programs.

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

 

The successful applicant will combine distribution management skills with leadership experience in a manufacturing / distribution environment.  This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor?s degree in a relevant discipline (Industrial Distribution) with 7 to 10 years experience in progressively responsible traffic management roles.  The position requires experience in freight rate negotiation, traffic scheduling, and warehouse management. 

 

Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must; familiarity with SAP is highly desirable.  The job requires someone who is proactive and self directed and comfortable operating on ?mission type? orders rather than detailed instructions.  The incumbent will be required to forecast both short and long term requirements for the distribution area based on overall plant and corporate strategy, develop plans to meet those needs, and utilize the necessary means to insure goal attainment making mid-course corrections when necessary.  In addition, he/she must be able to work collaboratively with the other staff functions to insure the overall success of the enterprise.

LOCATION:

 

Birmingham is located in scenic central Alabama and provides opportunities for shopping, fine dining, sports and outdoor activities most of the year.  Birmingham is approximately two hours drive from Atlanta, and a 4 hour drive to the beach or the Smokey Mountains.
