Community Preparedness Specialist

Key Role: Provide program management and analytical support for a US Department of Homeland Security client responsible for developing policy and guidance associated with increasing citizen preparedness and participation in homeland security initiatives. Research and draft material related to community preparedness initiatives throughout the country. Support the development of program presentations, seminars, and reports. Support the development of outreach strategies for regional implementation of diverse and special projects to link national preparedness activities and first responder initiatives. Compile information to support director and deputy director presentations and congressional testimony. Serve as a point of contact for the office and maintain a thorough understanding of current initiatives and programs. Compile information to support memorandums and correspondence in response to congressional, senior leadership, and citizen inquiries.



Functional/Industry Knowledge:

-3+ years of experience with professional work required

-Experience with researching and compiling policies and plans in emergency management and homeland security programs

-Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, and of other software packages 

-Knowledge of the Department of Homeland Security preferred

-Ability to exhibit professionalism

-Possession of excellent time management and organizational skills

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills 

 

Education/Certifications or equivalent required:

BA or BS degree in a related field required
