Job Summary:



Works in a team environment to provide consistently high quality research, data and related information and services in support of ARC fundraising goals. Identifies and analyzes individual and corporate prospects for cultivation; prepares related reports. Helps organize and prioritize prospect pools. Establishes research methodologies and data gathering formats relevant to specific requests and campaigns. Utilizes quantitative criteria, including income, assets, liabilities, and giving patterns to evaluate prospects' capacity and propensity for supporting ARC initiatives. Must have exceptional writing and analytical skills; a customer-service oriented attitude; and a high degree of proficiency in using Raiser's Edge database.



Job Responsibilities:



Conducts research on prospects and donors; examines and evaluates data to create reports; and identifies prospects with the capacity and interest to support ARC and its initiatives. Extracts and communicates key information regarding donor interests, relationships, capacity and other areas that inform fundraising strategies. Rates prospects and suggests gift levels. Uses database services (Raiser's Edge, Hoover's, Lexis-Nexis, etc.) to identify/qualify corporate and individual major gift prospects. Composes documents (profiles, bios, summaries; other reports) using style, grammar, and content appropriate for the request and audience. Analyzes and assesses information from local, national, and international resources; financial and philanthropy reports; references (print and electronic); and in-house files to determine financial capacity and philanthropic interests. Obtains and interprets detailed financial and legal disclosures including corporate reports (10K, proxy statements), foundation tax reports (IRS 990-PF), and state, county, and court documents. Translates complex financial, legal and corporate language into lay terms. Scans the technological environment to identify existing and emerging information systems and other resources and assess their benefits. Implements the use of selected new information systems and resources to increase the value of data and service provided to fundraising staff. Provides consultative services on research methodologies and resources as needed. Prepares related training materials for headquarters and field/chapter units. Conducts specialized research projects, including sphere of influence analyses, funding priority feasibility studies, regional and occupational analyses, other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred. Exceptional writing and analytical skills. Ability to perform complex reporting, including demonstrated skill in composing logical, detailed, and analytical reports that support planning and decision making. Experience in developing methodologies that identifying prospects (via constituent list segmentation, push technology, electronic database screening, and peer/constituency screening and rating). Understanding of wealth indicators, including income and assets. Advanced ability to interpret complex financial and legal disclosures, technical and trade documents (court and tax records, annual reports, SEC filings, and real property files). Knowledge of database systems. Strong Excel, MS Word, and the Web search skills. Demonstrated skill in information retrieval and protocols. Strong problem solving aptitude and the ability to work under pressure. Excellent customer service skills. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in prospect research, development, competitive or business intelligence, library research or a related field.
