Food Acquisition Manager
The Greater Boston Food Bank

GBFB, New England?s largest private food assistance program is a non-profit clearing house for food, both donated by the private sector and purchased to help feed those who are hungry. We are seeking a Food Acquisition Manager to manage our Food Acquisition Department.
PURPOSE: To manage a high performing food acquisition team to acquire as much quality food as possible while building and solidifying key food industry and government relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design and manage the annual workplan and department budget to build a strategy and its implementation for the purposes of quality food procurement.
2. Lead the Food Acquisition Department to maximize the quantity, quality and safety of all acquired product donations and purchases.
3. Manage all Food Acquisition Department programs including Massachusetts Emergency Food Assistance Program (MEFAP), CO-OP, USDA, Food Fund Purchased, local and national donations, food drives, produce and seafood as well as other programs and events developed to expand GBFB's ability to obtain quality product.
4. Guide, steward, develop and manage relationships with benefactors and other initiatives to increase the food industry?s involvement in the mission of The Food Bank.
5. Monthly review (cost/benefit analysis) of all food programs, events and food drives.
6. Supervise MEFAP Contract Associate, and three Product Donations Managers.
7. Maintain communication with contiguous food banks, America?s Second Harvest, vendors, cluster partners and relevant government agencies as they relate to MEFAP and USDA contracts.
8. Work with Warehouse, Member Services, Program Department, and Nutrition to maintain current GBFB product needs. This includes but is not limited to participation on the Distribution Team; regular inventory meetings; regular operations meetings ; weekly warehouse walkthroughs, as examples.
9. Provide support to the Food Industry Committee of the Board of Directors.
10. Produce routine quantitative and qualitative reports on food donations, donors, prospects, etc.
11. Work collaboratively with Operations Group especially Member Services, Warehouse, Programs and Nutrition to deliver the mission with efficiency and excellence.
12. Represent The Food Bank as requested including industry events and conferences, presentations, donor visits and public speaking opportunities.
13. Assist with special projects and/or additional assignments by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent; MBA highly desirable.
2. 10+ years? food industry experience preferably in food sales or food procurement.
3. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications.
4. Excellent analytical skills.
5. Ability to travel.
6. Commitment to GBFB?s mission and ability to communicate it.
7. Project planning, management and evaluation experience.
8. Experience in managing complex budgets effectively.
9. Demonstrated management/leadership experience. This includes examples of coaching, mentoring, conflict management and effective communication with staff.
10. Valid driver?s license and access to a personal vehicle.
11. Valid ServSafe certification and HAACP training a plus.
12. Strong computer skills, Windows environment (Word, Power Point, Excel). Macola experience a plus.
13. Public speaking skills a plus.
14. Team oriented, collaborative, experienced with shared goals.
15. Familiarity with E. Massachusetts a plus.
16. Sense of humor.
