City Year Greater Philadelphia, a member of AmeriCorps and part of the National Service Movement, is currently accepting applications to serve the children and communities of Philadelphia, full time for 10 months.  This fellowship position is open to highly qualified young people and runs for the school year from September 2006 through June of 2007. 

 



City Year unites young adults ages 17-24, from diverse ethnic, socio-economic, racial, religious, and educational backgrounds, for a demanding academic year of full-time community service, leadership development and civic engagement. City Year Greater Philadelphia's service strategy focuses solely on strengthening educational opportunities for the young people in the schools of Philadelphia and leading youth in community service.

 



Position responsibilities:Perform challenging full-time academic based service on a diverse team, 5 days per week, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. In addition to service, work to engage the public and sponsors (including Comcast, The Philadelphia Eagles, David's Bridal, Bank of America, Sneaker Villa & GlaxoSmithKline to name a few) through presentations about their participation in the National Service Movement Participate in a comprehensive leadership development program In-depth interaction with City Year Greater Philadelphia Board MembersHelp design innovative service projects and special events

 



Position requirements:

City Year corps members are required to demonstrate a commitment to improving communities through service accompanied by a commitment to personal growth and leadership development.

Additional requirements include: Being between the ages of 17 and 24 Committing to 10 months of full-time community service Passion for working on a diverse team of young adults

 



Position benefits:$175 Weekly Living Stipend (taxable) $4,725 Public Service Award (taxable), to be used for higher education, student loans or qualified job training High quality Timberland uniforms Student loan deferment and interest accrual paid for through AmeriCorps Basic health and childcare coverage Comprehensive leadership development training Meetings with community, business, and national leaders Local, regional, and national trainings and conferences Special instruction in serving children and project design
