Fund Development Director

Job Announcement: Development Director

The Booker T. Washington Learning Center is a local non-profit organization located in East Harlem, NY. It is dedicated to promoting educational equity, academic excellence and social responsibility for the children and adults that it serves.  The mission of BTWLC is to preserve and strengthen the community of East Harlem by offering educational and counseling programs which include after school, preschool, college preparation, art therapy, adult education, and adolescent tutoring and counseling services.  In addition, we are committed to enriching the lives of our participants through a variety of partnerships with other youth serving agencies.

  RESPONSIBILITIES

? Work with the Executive Staff and the Development Committee to research, cultivate and solicit prospects for gifts, contributions and grants;

? Implement, manage and evaluate the organization?s five-year fund development plan;

? Manage and coordinate all efforts to develop and cultivate donors;

? Work with the Executive Director and Development Committee to produce timetable and action plan for all giving;

? Work with the Executive Director to establish and maintain relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors;

? Actively pursue private revenue sources, working closely with the Board?s fund development committee to generate private donations;

? Educate and assist the Board in embracing their role as fund raisers;

? Research, write and manage grant proposals, submission deadlines and reporting timelines;

? Keep accurate records on all donors, develop, manage and maintain donor database;

? Assure acknowledgement of gifts and contributions in a timely manner;

? Provide progress reports and updates to Executive Staff and Board;

? Organize meetings and presentations to current and potential funders;

? Participate in the creation of and coordinate all fundraising special events;

? Hire and manage consultants and volunteers for special events;

? Develop and maintain a communications system to update our supporters about programs and accomplishments (provide input to the annual report);

? Work closely with program staff to update fundraising materials and reports so they are reflective of new developments and program changes;

? Administrative tasks assigned by the Executive Staff

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

? Five years of successful diverse fundraising and grant writing; experience with at least two solid years in a senior management development role.

? Possess a Baccalaureate, higher degree or combination of skills and experience in non-profit administration, communication, education or related field.

?  Must have proven experience in major donor development, planned giving, individual donor campaigns, special events, foundation and corporate grant writing and reporting.

?  Must be a team player with initiative as well as the ability to work independently on a variety of projects.

?  Keen attention to detail with superior organizing skills

?  A strategic thinker, creative and innovative

?  Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills is essential

?  Effective problem solver and ability to prioritize multiple tasks

?  Must have experience with and a desire to work with a diverse population of students, parents, teachers and general public

?  Genuine commitment to education and lifelong learning
