Title: GEAR UP Coordinator-9th & 10th grades, East Boston High School

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GEAR UP Coordinator reports to TERI Inc., the local GEAR UP Partner organization, and specifically to the GEAR UP local Program Manager. The GEAR UP Coordinator is accountable through the Partner organization, to the statewide GEAR UP Program Director. The GEAR UP Coordinator position is based at East Boston High School, and is a 12-month position. The GEAR UP Coordinator is responsible for implementing GEAR UP school activities for students, parents, teachers and guidance staff, including, but not limited to:
Principle Responsibilities:
? Coordination of academic support programs in partnership with school personnel to improve students' academic performance, school involvement, MCAS and SAT scores.

? Ensuring all designated students complete a GEAR UP education/career plan as outlined in the grant proposal, and administering GEAR UP surveys with cohort students and parents.

? Providing individual and group advising support to students preparing for postsecondary education.

? Coordination of higher education and career awareness activities (e.g. workshops, campus visits, financial aid awareness activities) for participating students and their parents.

? Assisting the Program Manager with oversight of professional development activities for guidance counselors and teachers.

? Conducting outreach to GEAR UP parents/guardians re: attendance, academic performance, and connecting parents with GEAR UP and TERI College Access resources.

? Presenting workshops for parents on strategies that support academic success, MCAS, higher education and financial aid options.

? Developing collaborative relationships with colleges and other youth-serving organizations in the community.

? Administrative duties including: recording all service data in GEAR UP Program Services database, monthly reporting, organization of student and program records.

? Attending mandated conferences, meetings and professional development, as required by the position.

? Specific evening hours required to facilitate regular communication with families.

? Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred in an academic subject area or related field; Experience with teaching, counseling, tutoring and/or student services. Experience with program coordination and ability to work independently. Experience working with racially and culturally diverse urban students and families. Strong ability to work as a team with multiple stakeholders including school administrators, teachers, students, parents, and GEAR UP colleagues. Excellent organizational, verbal and written skills required. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Familiarity with Massachusetts high school graduation and college admissions preferred. Bilingual abilities (Spanish-English) a plus.
