Grassroots Organizer

Position Summary:

 

Recruits and mobilizes pro-choice advocates to support and secure full access to reproductive freedom and sexual health, and to further the mission of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic.

 

Essential Functions: 

 

? Develops strategies for targeted recruitment and retention of activists consistent with PPHP advocacy, lobbying and legislative goals.

? Organizes diverse constituents to educate policy makers on reproductive health and rights issues and to urge them to take action on specific issues.

? Organizes and implements focused grassroots activities through the PPHP action alert network and constituency groups (clergy, VOX, Republicans, etc.), as well as utilizing other relevant resources and contacts to identify, engage and maintain relationships with supporters and activists.

? Establishes and maintains grassroots partnerships with diverse religious, business, civic and social community groups and coalitions to initiate support around shared public affairs issues and programs. Represents PPHP at various community events, and works collaboratively with other non-for-profit agencies on joint efforts.

? Recruits new community/campus based advocates for Planned Parenthood Action Nework.

? Develops, implements and coordinates strategies that raise the visibility and support of Planned Parenthood and reproductive rights and health issues among student populations.

? Assists in the formation and maintenance of campus-based pro-choice groups, including active communication between PPHP and student leadership and members.

? Develops and conducts presentations on legislation and advocacy to community/student groups.

? Supervises program-related students/volunteers, as appropriate.Assumes other responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned by the Public Affairs Coordinator.

 

Qualifications:

Experience, Education and LicensureBachelor?s degree with emphasis in political studies/public policy or related area. Minimum of two years of experience with community organizing and/or advocacy campaigns.  Or an equivalent combination of education and work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.Excellent computer skills. In depth knowledge of computer operations and appropriate software, including spreadsheets and databases. Understanding of the Internet as a resource for research and communication.
