Health Care Policy Analyst
Health Care Policy Analyst
Under the direction of the Director of Health Systems and Reimbursement Policy, identifies information needs, develops resources, and disseminates information on reimbursement issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Analyzes federal policies and advocates on behalf of the PA profession. Identifies reimbursement issues that are important and relevant to physician assistants, employers and others. Monitors Federal Register for changes to Medicare and other federal insurance programs affecting PAs. Disseminates information on coverage of services provided by PAs by writing, Issues Briefs, fact sheets, and Web documents. Responds to inquiries regarding third party reimbursement (Medicare, Medicaid, Tri-care, workers compensation, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and other private insurers). Contacts federal, state and private insurers (CMS, Medicaid, BC/BS, etc.) as necessary to resolve reimbursement problems involving physician assistants. Monitors and responds to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding proposals relevant to PAs. Conducts written and telephone surveys of public and private third party payers' policies on coverage of services provided by PAs. Makes presentations on reimbursement issues at local, regional or national meetings, PA programs, etc. Meets with public and private payers regarding coverage of services provided by PAs. Collects information and maintains up-to-date database and files of relevant materials (i.e., laws and private insurance company guidelines or administrative policies regarding coverage of PA services). Works with the Director of Health Systems and Reimbursement Policy to help chapters with state government initiatives related to third party coverage. Assists in updating AAPA publications and other materials related to third party coverage. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree and some work experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to handle high volume of telephone and e-mail inquiries Good organizational skills, professional demeanor, initiative, desire to help others. Working knowledge of MS Word helpful.
AAPA does not reimburse interview or relocation expenses.
The salary for this position is high $40's to $50,000.
