Information and Advocacy Coordinator
COSAC (The Center for Outreach and Services for the Autism Community) is a non-profit autism resource for New Jersey and is seeking a full time staff member for the Advocacy & Information Department. The ideal candidate will have a minimum BA in Education, Psychology, or Social Work plus experience with autism. Excellent communication, active listening and advocacy skills are a must. Knowledge of NJ Human Services system and fluency in Spanish are desirable. Candidate should feel comfortable with public speaking. Excellent benefits and competitive salary are offered. Job Description
COORDINATOR OF ADVOCACY & INFORMATION SERVICES
The Coordinator of Advocacy & Information Services under the direction of the Director of Advocacy & Information Services will deliver and/or assist in the delivery of advocacy and I/R services. The work week will be 40 hours, from 9:00am - 5:00pm, some of which may include evenings and occasional week-ends.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
? Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
? Experience in working with families, which have a family member with autism or related developmental disability.
? Excellent oral and written communication skills.
? Excellent organizational skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
? Background in applied behavioral analysis, autism or special education advocacy.
? A minimum of (2) two years direct experience in an accredited, behaviorally oriented program for individuals with autism.
? Good active listening and advocacy skills.
? Knowledge of generic New Jersey human services systems.
? Spanish speaking.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Answer Advocacy and Information/Referral calls.
2. Update information/referral materials.
3. Provide information and advocacy services to
Children?s Specialized Hospital sites as needed.
4. Arrange Short Term Emergency Care (STEC).
5. Arrange, coordinate and present workshops and
seminars on advocacy and autism related topics.
6. Assist Director of Advocacy & Information Services
with special projects/events related to advocacy or I&R
services.
7. Respond to e-mail requests.
8. Update and revise the COSAC display board in
conjunction with the Director of Communications
9. Arrange, coordinate and conduct IEP Review Clinics.
10. Attend informational fairs as requested.
11. Review COSAC members? IEP?s as requested.
12. Update and maintain IRIS database system.
13. Attend COSAC staff meetings and supervision
meetings as required.
14. Attend meetings, workshops, conferences or other
events as approved or assigned.
15. Assist with carrying out the general duties of COSAC
as assigned by the Executive Director.
16. Update and maintain the Helpline files on a regular
basis.
17. Keep current on autism through reading, attending
conferences, participating in journal club, or other
appropriate relevant activities.
