Mission: Through partnerships with families, schools and the local communities, EPATT promotes leadership, discipline, hard work and excellence. Using the unique mix of one-on-one academic tutoring and tennis instruction, EPATT strives to enrich the academic, athletic, and social skills of its 100 K-12th grade student participants and their families.
Summary and Position Responsibilities:
The Volunteer and Tutor Coordinator (VTC) is responsible for the recruitment, retention, and training of EPATT?s over 100 volunteer tutors each quarter. The VTC will also manage a team of 10-12 Stanford student Tutor Coordinators (TCs) who assist in tutor management and event execution. The VTC is also the Director of the Afternoon Tutorial for 60 Kindergarten-6th graders. They coordinate tutor and student pairings, teacher and parent correspondence, and overall student involvement/progress during their participation at East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring program.
a) Skills/Qualifications - Graduate of a 4 year college or university, proficient in MSWord and the internet, bi-lingual in Spanish (preferred, but not necessary), HIGHLY ORGANIZED, sports background (preferred), EXCELLENT INTERPERSONAL SKILLS, excellent oral and written communication skills, works well independently, ability to work in a team environment, possessing some prior work experience involving children or managing peers. CONFIDENT.
b) Personality/Work Style ? motivated, sense of humor, outgoing, good with kids, friendly, ability to handle stress, sensitive to the needs and situations of those around them.
c) Life Experiences ? Sports background, knowledge of minority issues and communities. Recent college graduate preferred.
d) Drivers license required! Someone who can be a role model.
e) Specific duties:
School Year (Sept.-June)
o Recruit, retain, and train ~100 volunteers from the Stanford community each academic quarter
o Obtain essential forms and information for each tutor
o LiveScan Fingerprinting
o Schedule
o Contact Information
o Volunteer Contract
o Maintain tutor attendance records
o Tutor support and correspondence
o Recruit, manage, support and train 10-12 Tutor Coordinators (Interns) throughout the academic year
o Manage ~60 K-6th graders throughout their participation with EPATT
o Coordinate daily transportation for EPATT participants from East Palo Alto to the Stanford University Campus
o Support and correspond with each child?s parent/guardian and teachers
o Including, but not limited to, emails, phone calls, meetings, and obtaining report cards
o Coordinate a team of 4 part time staff member for the Afternoon Group Session
o Help plan and coordinate 2 major EPATT events for the Spring Quarter
o Family Night (~300 people)
o Tutor Luncheon (~50-75 people)
o Assist fellow staff members as needed
Summer (late June-early Aug)
o Design, plan, and implement a 6 week summer program for ~20-25 participants
o Manage ~3-4 part-time staff members and ~4 high school volunteers
o Coordinate transportation for EPATT participants from East Palo Alto Boys and Girls Club to the Stanford Campus
o Transport, chaperone, and supervise students in EPATT vehicles on field trips, etc.
o Plan and coordinate for TC training in September
o Prepare for the Fall Quarter
