Marine Mammal Program Officer

The International Fund for Animal Welfare works to improve the welfare of wild and domestic animals throughout the world by reducing commercial exploitation of animals, protecting wildlife habitats, and assisting animals in distress.

 

Position Title:  Marine Mammal Program Officer - US

Reports To:  US Country Director

Location of Job: Washington, DC

Job Code:  US007 

 

Purpose

The Marine Mammal Program Officer in the U.S. oversees the strategic development and implements the marine mammal campaign in the U.S. The Program Officer will work closely with his/her counterparts in WHP covering the various marine mammal issues, with a particular focus on whales.

 

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

? Work closely with the U.S. Director and the Marine Mammal Program Manager in WHP to develop and implement effective strategies for achievement of U.S. goals on marine mammals.

 

? Identify and develop key strategic relationships and work cooperatively with other NGOs, and with Federal and State Government officials, to advance the U.S. goals on marine mammals.

 

? Draft reports, media and activist alerts, letters, and other documents in support of the U.S. Marine Mammal Program.

 

Requirements

? A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in wildlife campaigns.

? BA or equivalent degree required. Advanced degree in public policy, conservation, biological or environmental science preferred.

? Knowledge and experience in work with marine mammal issues preferred.
