Senior Systems Engineer needed in DC area

USAC, a dynamic private company in downtown DC, has an outstanding opportunity for a regular full-time position of a Senior Systems Engineer. The purpose of this position is to provide team leadership to engineers, and hands-on work on infrastructure projects and administration. Position would suggest network design (architecture and topology), network analysis, including performance, administration and control of USAC voice, data, and video network infrastructures.  Will play a lead role in high impact implementations; and be the technical lead in advanced data routing, switching, security, and Linux, BSD, and Solaris systems building and maintenance.  Incumbent works with network manager and project management team to organize and direct multiple, and large concurrent projects; recommending standards, procedures and protocols; and recommending purchases, vendor selections, and procurements.

 

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

? 5-7 years direct work experience in computer networking;

? 4-6 years demonstrated successful routing & switching;

? At least 3 years hands-on experience with UNIX, Network Monitoring;

? At least 3 years hands-on experience with Firewall Maintenance;

? At least 2 years experience as team lead or technical project manager;

? Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology and/or Systems;

? Prefer a candidate with MCSE, Cisco, and security certification.

 

 

Responsibilities include:

 

? Provide team leadership on infrastructure projects, including coaching engineers in skills development; interacting with business units and project managers to determine solutions; researching solutions, and recommending and tracking procurements.

? Network infrastructure building, documentation, and maintenance plans (switches, routers, firewalls, UNIX and Windows servers, enterprise, and other high-impact application installation, desktops, server room and wiring infrastructure).

? Network infrastructure maintenance, including establishing quality standards and strategies on service delivery in the areas of data and voice network infrastructure availability, security, and monitoring (for example, leading the team in establishing and maintaining our systems of alerts, notifications and reports on server, networks,  and environmental).
