Vocational Services Specialist

Since 1908, the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany, Inc. (NABA) has provided comprehensive programs and services for area residents who are blind or visually impaired.  The intent is to educate, inform, and counsel, while ensuring that clients receive the kind of vision care and rehabilitation that will enable them to maximize their vision, productivity, and independence.

 

Purpose

The purpose of the Vocational Services Specialist is to assist with and supplement the services delivered by the Rehabilitation Department, in the specific areas of job placement and training.

 

General Description:

The Vocational Services Specialist is responsible for helping clients to identify and attain their career objectives, through explicit skills instruction, job placement assistance and coaching, and ongoing assessment, advisement, and training.  By working in conjunction with agency staff, local businesses, and other agency- and community-based vocational training professionals, the Vocational Services Specialist will help clients in achieving their individual vocational goals while ensuring the integration and delivery of appropriate supportive services.  Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are required of the Vocational Services Specialist, as are organization, flexibility, and sensitivity to confidential client information.  Successful performance in this position also relies on the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team, and to make appropriate recommendations based on observation, documentation, and the use of accepted assessment tools.  Travel throughout NABA?s eight-county service area will be required.
