Boiler Operator and Maintenance Technician II

Supervision Received ? Work performed under the general supervision of the salaried supervisor as assigned.

 

Supervision Given ? Supervises employees on an assigned shift.

 

Position Summary/Accountabilities ? This position is responsible for all aspects of the operation, testing, safety and monitoring of equipment at the Emery power plant. The Boiler Operator & Maintenance Technician-II may be cross-trained to proficiency in other areas of plant operation and maintenance.

 

Job Functions - The requirements listed below are representative of, but not limited to, the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to do the job.

Starts, operates, monitors and shuts down combustion turbine generating units, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine generating unit and all associated auxiliary equipment.

Ensures that all aspects of plant operations remain in compliance with environmental rules and regulations. Operates control equipment to obtain safe and economical operation of HRSG, turbines, and auxiliary equipment.

 

Operates switchgear to obtain safe and proper operation of plant and system electrical equipment.

 

Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules, polices, and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors, which may lead to accidents. Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.

 

Leads and drives the establishment, acceptance and implementation of operating policies, procedures and activities that maximized operating results. Assumes responsibility for all activities of the plant and plant site. Plans, assigns duties and supervises employees assigned to the shift and ensures duties are being performed in accordance with established plant policies and procedures. Supports safety, plant reliability, productivity, and plant efficiency improvements by participating in various continuous improvement activities.

 

Performs a variety of work connected with the operation of the combined cycle site. Performs basic mechanical, electrical and instrument and control troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, cleaning, inspecting of equipment and systems for the generation facility.

 

Performs various generating plant and shop area housekeeping functions.

Participates in outage work in all areas of operations, maintenance, repair and testing.

Possesses skills in reading, basic math and electricity and have mechanical aptitude.

Able to remain calm during emergencies.

Capable of quick accurate decisions and speed of execution.

Performs other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to this position.

 

Physical & Environmental Requirements ? Performs work indoors and outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes, weather, dirt, dust and grease. Work could keep employee on his/her feet for long periods of time. Is exposed to normal workplace hazards where normal safety precautions are required. Subject to both inside & outside environmental conditions; confined spaces, height and moving mechanical parts.

 

Technical/Job Skills Qualifications ? The candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications and have demonstrated the following technical or job skills:

 Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of experience in plant operation as a senior operator or DCS board operator.Good theoretical knowledge of generating station systems. Ability to read blueprints, manuals, technical manuals; mechanical aptitude; reading and math knowledgeGood verbal & written communication skills.Basic knowledge of First Aid & CPR. Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies. Capacity for quick, accurate decisions and speed of execution.Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Possession of a valid driver?s license. Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
