Position:  Business Continuity Planner

 

Summary:  This position serves as an expert in the area of business continuity planning for the organization.  Responsible for aiding management in protecting the organization, mitigating exposure and helping ensure that critical operations can continue, or are resumed as quickly as possible, in the event of business interruptions.  Responsible to help direct cooperative teams during actual and simulated events; review vendor contracts to help ensure viability; collaboratively identify and design solutions that mitigate exposures and enhance resilience; and develop actionable recovery plans, standards, guidelines and procedures to facilitate disaster recovery planning.  Position will also be responsible for testing and updating Business Continuity Plan on results of tests.  Some training will be required to key personnel.

 

Minimum

Education:  Bachelors degree in business management, disaster planning or related field.  Certification as BUSINESS CONTINUITY or DR professional desired.  Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) preferred.

 

Minimum

Experience:  Four years experience in business continuity planning methodology, business management or related area.  Two years practical experience in operational business continuity role including thorough knowledge of the Business Continuity life cycle.  Previous experience in management of large, complex initiatives.

 

Key Knowledge:  Knowledge of disaster recovery planning principles and practices.  Understanding of emergency and crisis management.  Knowledge of records or security management.

 

Key Skills:  Excellent time management skills, strong project management skills, highly organized, strong negotiation and persuasion skills to present new ideas, customer service focused, team oriented; strong PC skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

 

Key Abilities:  Ability to work under pressure and act assertively to ensure deadlines are met; able to make decisions and problem solve; able to communicate effectively through both written and oral communication throughout the organization at all levels; able to promote collaboration and generate buy-in without having formal authority; able to recognize and use information about organizational climate and key individuals to accomplish organizational goals; able to clarify and simplify technical aspects and highly complex information to managers and staff.

 

Other

Requirements:  Ability to travel occasionally.  Due to the unpredictability of the purpose of this position, this person may have to work unusual hours during an emergency situation as well as be willing to be accessible during non-working hours.
