DOT Toll Booth Collector

The toll collector is assigned to a toll plaza where a collector?s toll is charged for the use of highways by motor vehicles and passengers. The essential Duties & Responsibilities of the toll collector include, but are not limited to the following:

Duties & Responsibilities:

?Collects money and gives customers change
?Accepts toll and fare ticket previously used
?At end of shift, balance cash and records money and tickets received
?Provides direction and travel advice as requested
?Provide change to patrons who enter exact change lanes without exact change
?Raise gate with the push of a button if machine malfunctions or patron?.
?Pick up coins out of lanes when necessary.
?Move traffic cones during rush hour
?Write insufficient funds slips when patrons do not have the fare
?Keep a written gate tender?s report on any gate incidents
?Help ensure the continued smooth flow of traffic.

?Regularly required to stand from 6-8 hours shifts, use hand and eye coordination, handle or manipulate multiple denomination bills, coins and manipulate controls
?Ability to reach with hands and arms, ability to talk, see and speak in the English language
?Allowed to sit during specified designated times according to the individual plaza based on the flow of traffic of the plaza
?Must be able to lift, carry and/or move objects and materials of up to 25 pounds
?Specific vision ability required by this job include color vision and peripheral vision
?Must be able to do all aspects of the position ? entry, relief and exit

?Ability to add and subtract two and three digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10?s and 100?s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American currency.
?Frequently exposed to automotive exhaust fumes
?Frequently exposed to air temperatures relative to the season/time of year. Rain, wind, heat, thunder, lighting and cold temperatures are conditions that an employee can be expected to work under
?Noise level in the work environment is usually loud as associated with heavy traffic
?All duties are performed outdoors under a canopy to protect from the weather
?All of the issues mentioned above are conditions that an employee can be expected to work under or encounter
