Payments and Messaging Operator

The main function of a payments operator is to repair and verify all payment instructions and messages, which can not be automatically processed. This position is within a team with responsibilities for Payments Processing & Message Delivery. All team members are major contributors to Process Management within the Cash Management and Payment teams. As a Payments operator you will be responsible for a number of versatile tasks and control functions such as repair and verify of payments and messages. Also, reconciliation and reporting, official check functions, ACH processing, and system testing. The candidate should be self motivated, show initiative, be a team player and be open to new ideas.

* Repair all outgoing payment instructions to be processed through CHIPS, FED, and book transfers and cashiers checks.

* Repair incoming unqualified CHIPS and Fed payments received from other institutions.

* Make any corrections, amendments, deletions or cancellations requested by clients.

* Inspect all outgoing and incoming payments to ensure that the payment is formatted as per the original instructions.

* Sort and distribute all morning reports.

* Backup staff in customer risk management responsibilities as required.

* Prepare all ACH payment files and transmit them to the Clearing House.

* Prepare and send all cashiers checks.

* Repair all same day returns.

* Perform end-of-day tasks including CHIPS settlement, global reconciliation of payments activity, generating screen prints for auditing purposes as well as coordinating with the Data Center for the release of the system.

* Perform all functions associated with NATS (the name and address system for the New York Clearing House), including requesting additions, modifications and deletions of CHIPS UIDs as well as downloading updated tables.

* Backup repair/verify functionality throughout the day.

* Assist in resolving phone inquiries.

* Assist in the creation and updates of departmental procedures manual.

* Perform tests on payments and messaging systems for all product and/or release changes.

* Backup support for BKE procedures.

* Perform Message routing functions and repair and verify failed messages.

* Assist in enhancing our present reporting process.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree

* 1 to 3 years payments or messaging experience

* PC Skills: Excel and Word
