This position will focus on addressing the scientific, nutrition components of health claims and regulatory issues that bridge common areas across multiple products in both the  Sara Lee Food and Beverage and Food Service businesses. Will work closely with the director in developing a corporate nutrition and healthy lifestyle platform.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS:Provide leadership in nutrition and policy within a changing regulatory environment that will result in strategies to support wellness and nutrition benefits for innovative, healthier products targeting multiple age groups. Identify and evaluate current and emerging issues of concern and opportunities (obesity, nutrient density, sodium, children, etc.) that could place the company at risk.  Play a key role with cross-functional teams (legal, regulatory, marketing, PD, Communications) in designing and implementing the scientific framework of proactive or reactive strategies to address, prevent or ameliorate risk.Influence the thinking of government and key thought leaders by actively participating with critical professional and trade organizations targeting committees that will support the corporate strategy with a heightened focus on innovative, break-through products and healthy lifestyle benefits and claims.Assist the Director in building and executing a health and nutrition strategy with unifying platforms to support healthy lifestyles that will provide synergies across the businesses in both retail and food service. Interact proactively with key associates and teams (marketing, product development, regulatory, legal) during the preplanning and execution stages of new products and business opportunities.


The position requires a graduate degree (MS/MPH/PHD) in nutrition or related discipline with undergraduate degree in nutrition or a related discipline.  RD (registered dietitian) credentials highly desirable.
An experienced professional who will function with a high degree of autonomy; has industry or work background managing projects and issues with high degree of complexity; delivers on time.
7  or more yrs. of industry experience playing a key role on  cross functional teams with demonstrated successful outcomes; experience with government and regulatory agencies; knowledge of labelling regulations; can present accurately and effectively to internal and external technical and non-technical  groups.
Strong strategic thinker. Has the necessary experience to lead/chair external technical committees.  Must have ability to work under conditions of extended work schedules, travel and multiple changing priorities. Minimal 25% travel.
