Responsibilities:

ONSET Ventures (www.onset.com), a leading early stage venture capital firm, is seeking a unique individual to join our investment team for a two to three year period as a venture capital associate in the Communications sector. The individual will work with general partners of the firm and hold primary responsibility for managing the complete investment lifecycle: deal-sourcing, developing business plan, formulating investment hypothesis, closing financings and monitoring portfolio companies. Be involved in outreach for the firm to the entrepreneurial & venture capital community. This is an ideal position for a candidate planning to found or join a start-up company in the future, or evaluating a career in venture capital. The position is based in Menlo Park, California.

 

Overall Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a history of high professional and academic achievement, including a unique blend of strong analytical and interpersonal skills, financial modeling experience, and a depth of experience in the information technology sector. We are seeking candidates with an engaging and outgoing personality, developed networking skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, mature professional judgment, an ability to operate successfully in an unstructured environment, and an excellent work ethic.  In addition, candidates must possess the ability to interact constructively with experienced entrepreneurs and senior executives.

Candidates must be able to analyze past and emerging IT sectors with a view towards identifying early stage investment opportunities. Ability to pro-actively search for new deals and keep up to date on the latest business and technology trends are essential. Familiarity with industry research and ability to put together a comprehensive investment memorandum is expected. Ability to think through various business models and go-to-market strategies is helpful. Candidates should be able to work alone or in a team environment and be able to tolerate ambiguity in their assignments.

 

Work Experience:

?  Minimum 8 yrs. of full time work experience in the IT industry with exposure to one or more of the following areas - In all cases, focus on computer systems and networking sectors is preferred:

? Operating roles in product marketing/management, product development, business development, strategy, engineering

? Management Consulting

? Entrepreneur (previously involved with starting an IT business)

?  Ideal candidates would have worked at both a FT500 as well as a private company

 

Education:

?  BS (Electrical Engineering or Computer Science a plus)

?  MBA

 

 

Compensation:

Compensation will be competitive and based upon experience.
