Description

Under general supervision, the Java Developer I develops, codes, tests, and debugs new software and makes enhancements to existing software. Works with the technical staff to resolve software incompatibilities and provides suggestions for improvements to software products. May assist in the development of software user manuals. Maintains an awareness of new software developments and technology.

As a member of the development team, the Java Developer will be responsible for developing and implementing a multi-tier software solution used by the Department of Navy. The technology platform is comprised of IBM HTTP Server, Websphere Application Server ( a J2EE architecture) and an Oracle database. Critical delivery of high performance and secure coding in a multi-tiered, distributed system environment is required.

Additional responsibilities include:
- Contribute to architecture and development of current and future initiatives.
- Mentor other members of the development team
- Work closely with management on future technologies

 Required Skills

This position requires a Bachelors degree and 2 years of related experience.

 Required Experience

- Experience with software architecture, design and development experience with a proven track record
- Significant experience building systems with Java, J2EE and related technologies
- Experience with scalability, reliability, n-tier, distributed enterprise system development
- Experience with application servers specifically IBM Websphere
- Experience in developing Enterprise Java Beans
- Experience with Servlets, JSP?s, Customer Tag Libraries and Web-Flows.
- Experience developing systems utilizing relational databases, particularly Oracle
- Experience building dynamic web-pages using Java
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
