Lead Tool Designer

GENERAL SUMMARY OF THE PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To provide leadership and support in the conceptualization, design, and building of injection molds for the Mechanical
Engineering group, and specific tasks as necessary directed towards support of customers and departmental work objectives.

The Manager of Toolroom will review the Lead Toolroom Designers performance and compensation. The Toolroom Manager
will summarize the Lead Toolroom Designers performance of duties and provide focus and direction for the future.

Deployment Description of Essential Duties
Work collaboratively as a resource for all departments, co-workers and customers in the development of piece parts, as
well as the injection mold tooling to produce those parts.
Develop tool designs that maximize tool life, part quality, ease of maintenance, and manufacturing processing through
the thoughtful application of products and technologies.
Oversee and produces tool designs in ProEngineer that meet Starkey standards for format, detail, component
commonality/interchangeability, and appropriate tool life.
Coordinate tooling related activities with internal and external shop contacts, the transfer of electronic data and
documents that are relevant to design and build projects.
Maintain and organize electronic database for the filing, maintenance, and transfer of all tool designs, including all files
that are affected by revision changes from engineering or tooling personnel.
Anticipate opportunity to set up or stage mold design and mold build work to compress deliveries.
Develop mold quotations as required.
Maintain mold asset number database.
Assist with the quantifying of available internal labor to support tooling activities.
Prioritize mold design work and schedule it to achieve delivery goals.
Ensure that preliminary and final design reviews are conducted, documented, and archived.
Conduct maintenance of databases used for project updates, and the tracking of mold build data.
Participate in the development and ongoing maintenance of a Starkey Laboratories Mold Specification Document.
Help co-workers in the development of mold design and ProE related job skills.
Remain current with existing and developing technologies in Tool Design, build, manufacturing, and mold processing.
Check and verify quality.
Support corporate health and safety objectives.
React to change productively and handle other essential duties as assigned.

to tracking work progress, costs, and deliveries

Requirements:

Knowledge, skills and abilities for performance of essential duties:

Minimum education, certification and experience requirements
Education: Technical degree in Mold/Die trades or equivalent
Experience: An experience base comprised of the building, repair, or maintenance of injection molds in combination
totaling five years
Training and or demonstrated proficiency in the use and application of ProEngineer including the mold design module.
Six years of tool design experience with a minimum of four years comprised of ProE tool design.
Experience on current Microsoft computer software (Word, Excel, etc.) that allows for the communication and
management of departmental data.
Knowledge
Understanding of foundational Toolroom equipment and specialized machine tools whose use can be integrated into
the Tool Design to improve deliveries and quality.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with coworkers, vendors, and customers.
Ability to work effectively with others both within and outside of the Tooling group that is both Professional and
respectful of others.
