Merchandising/Buying/Planning

Help drive sales by having what guests want, when they want it, where they shop. Play a role in the buying and planning process, including goal setting, trend analysis and advertising.


Purpose

As a manager, you'll manage the test kitchen and the overall evaluation of food products in support of our private label food product business. You'll be responsible for program direction, planning, and execution to ensure the taste, appearance, performance and overall quality of the food products approved for sale by Target.

Providing objective evaluations to merchants to aid in product selection or vendor selection and recommending product development and improvements, recipe ideas and packaging
Providing sensory descriptive analysis feedback to suppliers to improve their products to meet expectations
Monitoring product quality and performance and implement improvements
Conducting cuttings on initial production runs for new products and existing products throughout life cycle
Reporting product and overall brand quality status, trends and action plans
Managing an exempt staff, including staff development, review writing and providing work direction
Communicating product requirements and QA processes and procedures to suppliers, buyers and agents
Training merchants, suppliers and agents to ensure complete understanding of processes
Identifying food trends and potential opportunities
Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

4-year college degree in Home Economics, Food Science or related discipline
Ten or more years of test kitchen or product development experience working with consumer packaged foods
At least five years of experience in a supervisory role
Expert culinary skills, ability to discriminate and articulate food attributes
Ability to develop recipes, provide creative copy and detailed preparation instructions for consumer packaged foods
Strong technical knowledge, including food science, product formulation, packaging, specifications and sensory analysis
Possess a blend of business, culinary, and marketing perspectives and passion for food
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to write concise reports with end-user audience in mind
Ability to understand quality assurance in a retail environment
Strong attention to details, problem solving, and team working skills
Ability to make quick decisions
Proficient Microsoft Office skills
