Manager, Special Events at Pepperdine University

DUTIES: Oversee all President's Office events; oversee events in other areas as assigned; coordinate the work of independent contractors, interdepartmental staff, and volunteers involved in specific events; prepare, submit, and manage event budgets; develop marketing and promotional materials (I.e., invitations, programs, trip itineraries, scripts, requisitions, etc.); prepare, produce, and distribute event information; oversee scheduling and management of special University events that include major gift fund-raisers, commencement exercises, concerts, luncheons, receptions, retreats, conferences, and other similar events; supervise and develop ongoing relationships with various outside event vendors, internal departments, and volunteer groups; coordinate the involvement of both external and internal creative personnel to implement all special events, including meeting facilitation and the development of marketing plans; act as liaison between alumni directors, advancement staff, University donors and prospects, and various departments on behalf of the President's Office; initiate and execute correspondence to external constituents and internal University offices; perform other duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Two years of college; Bachelor's degree preferred; two years of special project and event coordination experience; ability to speak Spanish preferred; two years in conference and events production; proven track record of making independent decisions; superior phone and organizational skills; effective oral and written communication skills; knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred; knowledge of University and donor culture to be comfortable communicating directly with senior executives; strong writing skills for printed media and letters; strong interpersonal skills; ability to handle multiple tasks; ability to have a "creative eye" for design; ability to establish priorities and manage change; PC-skills; ability to sustain a high level of productivity under stress while maintaining accuracy and a positive public image to all clients and audiences; ability to work nights and weekends as needed; ability to drive to various locations throughout California; ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds for up to 75 feet; must have reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record.
