Description:

With limited supervision, the Service Technician III performs maintenance and repair of

complex equipment in a safe and professional manner. Must be able to effectively

perform all duties of lower level technicians.

Essential Duties:

Using some degree of independent judgment, responsible for the safe maintenance and

repair of a variety of complex rental equipment and tools at branch or customer

locations involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems:

? Perform intermediate level diagnostics and repairs on a variety of equipment and

systems utilizing working knowledge of schematics and diagrams

? Assist in the training of lower level technicians as needed

Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) in a

complete and timely manner on a daily/job basis:

? Record preventative and ready inspection completion in Rentalman system

? Document parts and labor accurately within Rentalman

When required travel to customer site for repair/maintenance of rental or owned

equipment:

? Maintain a service vehicle in a clean and professional manner.

? May assist in the pick up and delivery of equipment and parts to and from outside

vendors and other United Rentals, Inc. locations for purchase and/or repair

Education:

? High School diploma or equivalent

? Manufacturer sponsored training a plus

? Trade school training preferred

? Active applicable state class driver?s license

Experience: ? 3-5 years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools

Other Skills Required:

? Must own tools applicable to position

? Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools

? Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills

? Advanced knowledge of rental cycle

? Working knowledge of company computer systems

? Demonstrated time management skills

? Working knowledge of schematics and diagrams

? Working knowledge of heavy equipment; manufacturers? warranty process; and

work order/time spent accounting

? Requires mechanical background knowledge of various engines.

? Possess the verbal aptitude required, in regards to communicating internally with

supervisors, the necessary information to complete the assigned tasks.

? Ability to coach and mentor less experienced service technicians

Working Conditions:

? Activities requiring handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs

or maintenance of equipment by utilizing hand tools, power tools, air tools, nuts,

bolts, electronic controls, and other small parts.

? Occasional use of foot/feet to operate foot pedal on equipment to test operation

? Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., and seldom lifting up

to 75 lbs.

? Exposure to bright light, extreme temperature, loud noise, dust, gas, or fumes

? Work in unprotected weather elements

? Ability to wear a respirator and/or hearing protection as required

? Ability to bend, kneel, and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time

? Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours per

day

? Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day
