Position: Senior Product Development Engineer
Reporting to:  Director of Engineering


My client is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of propane and natural gas direct-fired heaters, radiant heaters and torches for a wide range of markets.   Through the course of the Company’s 50 year history, they have established a significant leadership position in the majority of markets it serves by delivering innovative products and quality services that meet the evolving needs of its customers. 


 


They are looking for a Senior Development Engineer to join their team in their ever-growing facility located in Wisconsin.  The position requires a self motivated individual capable of self direction and project leadership responsibilities to design and implement new features and products.  The individual needs to have strong cross functional skills and willing to cross train and mentor colleagues.


 


Experience, Qualifications, and Education:


 


The ideal candidate will have:


·  A minimum of 10 years of product development engineering experience, including at least 2 years direct supervision of technical / engineering personnel.


·  Combustion (combustion related) work is of utmost importance


·  Thorough knowledge and experience in the full cycle of product development.  This will include proven success moving a product from concept to production in an efficient and well thought out manner, for example, the ideal candidate developed an entire product versus just the control switch


·  Demonstrated competence with business fundamentals.


·  Proven team leader with solid coaching mentoring skills in a technical setting.


·  Supervisory experience a plus.


·  Highly proficient written and oral communication skills.


·  A BS degree with a strong academic record is required  (Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering preferred)


·  ACT score Minimum – 25


·  SAT score Minimum – 1200


·  H.S. School GPA – Minimum 3.0


·  College GPA – Minimum 3.0


 


·  Computer system capabilities utilizing Microsoft Office applications, e-mail and basic understanding of CAD design is desirable.


·  Mechanical aptitude and technical capability to be able to work with all levels of employees in a manufacturing environment along with the ability to investigate and mediate technical issues.


 


Description & Responsibilities


 


The Senior Product Development Engineer is responsible for providing timely, high quality technical expertise to the design and development of products. 


 


Specific responsibilities include:


· Analyze and interpret market and customer information to assist in identifying new product or product improvement opportunities to meet customer expectations.  You will work closely with the Sales and Marketing groups to develop a comprehensive product definition that meets customer and business needs.


· Provide direction and support to other Engineering staff throughout the development and production cycle.


· Perform necessary testing and evaluation to ensure products meet or exceed customer/market place expectations.


· Conduct necessary product performance, safety and reliability testing and provide analysis of your results.


· Ability and willingness to ravel up to about 10% for business.


As a key member of the engineering team, the Senior Product development Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering (within a department of 1 CAD Supervisor/ 2 CAD professionals/ 2 R&D Techs/ 3 Engineers/ 2 Service Techs) and works closely with other members of the management staff.  The successful candidate will be a strong team player who gets things done both as an individual contributor and as a team player across multiple departments.
