Fashion Copywriter

Job Description: Put your love of fashion and shopping to work with a career as a copywriter at JCP Direct. The candidate we're seeking will have a strong interest in the retail industry's competitive landscape, and feel at home in a fast-paced environment. Ability to write accurately and persuasively for both print and internet is critical.

Our copywriters collaborate closely with in-house artists and merchants to craft the "voice" of our company and create outstanding presentations that generate sales to millions of customers every day. Coordination of page changes and corrections, plus reviews at various stages of production deadlines are integral parts of writers' responsibilities. Copywriters also ensure that all copy adheres to accepted legal standards and company policy.

The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing advertising objectives and producing creative and factual copy that effectively sells merchandise and minimizes returns. Our Copywriters participate in regular meetings with our Merchandise Department to help develop the most effective selling plans. In addition, they prepare a visual guide for the Layout Artist showing the products, promotions, and copy space requirements for each catalog page. Coordination of page changes and corrections plus reviews at various stages of production to meet deadlines are integral parts of their responsibilities. Copywriters also ensure that all copy adheres to accepted legal standards and company policy.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Journalism, Advertising, or English and at least two years of professional writing-related experience.

Creative advertising skills, familiarity with and a basic understanding of typography, and proficiency with current professional publishing software such as Quark Xpress are essential.

Prior professional writing experience - experience with fashion writing a strong plus
Excellent proofreading and editing skills
Basic computer skills--Quark preferred/Good with deadlines
Detail-oriented
Comfortable in a team workgroup.
Must provide portfolio of writing samples and pass a writing/proofreading test.
