Can I transfer all my Isa savings at once?

Q I have a mini cash Isa with Smile and when I opened the account it paid one of the highest rates of interest around. This is no longer the case.

The account contains about £13,000. Can I transfer this whole amount to another account, which pays better interest or can I only transfer £3,000 a year? I would like to invest in another internet account as I have no time to spend in branches.

A You are quite free to transfer the £13,000 held in your existing mini-cash Isa to another provider all at once. You cannot invest more money into it however, if you are planning to take out another cash Isa in the same tax year.

Check that there is no transfer penalty charge imposed. Also check the terms of the new account provider. There are all kinds of hidden conditions, especially with accounts paying the highest rates. An internet or telephone based account will probably offer a better rate of interest because they don't have to cover the cost of branch administration.
