 Switch on to fuel deadline

It isn't only the tax and ISA deadlines looming this month. There are only a few weeks to go before the deadline for winter fuel payments and people over 60 are being advised to claim their £200 entitlement. Contact the winter fuel payment help line on 0845 9151515.

Utilities website comparison service, Uswitch, highlighted the issue this week saying it was particularly important after the recent spate of gas and electricity price rises. Six suppliers including the biggest, British Gas and nPower have increased prices so far this year and more rises are expected.

Andrew Salmon, managing director of uSwitch.com said: "It's worth ensuring that friends and family apply for entitlements in time - £200 can go a long way towards heating bills. And check you are receiving value for money from your current electricity and gas suppliers."
