University of Bradford

Bradford celebrates its 40th anniversary as a university this year. It is a close-knit community of around 10,000 students, including some 7,000 full-time undergraduates. The campus is located close to the city centre, one of the most affordable places to live and study in the UK. Ignore anything you might have heard about the high crime rate - you'll find the area around the university friendly and welcoming. Applications to Bradford were up 28% in 2005, while across the sector there has been a drop of 3.4%. Bradford has a top graduate employment record and is ranked as number one in the UK for social inclusiveness, according to figures released by HESA in 2005. A massive 49.2% of young, full-time first degree entrants come from working-class backgrounds. At 18.6%, the projected drop-out rate not as high as at some other institutions with such a diverse student community.

Fees
£3,000 a year for all full-time undergraduate courses. Sandwich years £600 and foundation years £1,200 (except clinical sciences).

Bursaries
Bursary scheme for students receiving full or partial maintenance grant: £500 for foundation years and first year undergraduates, £700 for second years and £900 for third years. One-off payment of £300 in the first year of an undergraduate programme for students who have registered with the university's Compact Scheme. A number of scholarships also available.

Accommodation
Guaranteed for eligible first years. Priority is given to non-local students and undergraduate students in their first year. Contact accommodation services for exact details. Self-catering university accommodation ranges from £55 (standard) to £76 (en-suite) a week.
