We like Portman's extended fixed rate

3.59%

We do like the Portman two-year fixed rate with a recently extended end date of 1/10/05.

Portman has held the rate when most lenders have increased theirs. This is not only a great two-year fixed rate but comes with the facility to repay up to 10% during each year without penalty. A fees-free option exists at a higher rate (3.99%, which may be useful for the smaller loans).

Portman has a solid reputation for speedy processing of loans, which is becoming important as the speed of house sales begins to pick up. There is also its mutual status to consider - arguably putting its members' interests first.
